Bad Seed Music is an independent music label dedicated to creating and promoting authentic hip hop music and events. Founded in 2002, Bad Seed Music is based in Richmond, California, and is home to rap artist Tone and turntablist Junior High.
The meaning behind Bad Seed
People often ask , “Why is your label named Bad Seed?” Many of them, understandably, find a negative connotation in the name and - knowing the positive and hard-working people that we are - wonder how that fits with our crew.
To the Bad Seeds, our name represents a positive vision: the idea that even a rose can grow from concrete. That no matter how others may percieve you, what labels society might apply to you, no matter what your background, no matter your history or image, every individual still possesses infinite potential to be positive, strong, and successful.
Music that reflects life
Tone’s forthcoming debut album, Education of a Felon, reflects this idea. In it, listeners share Tone’s experiences: the good times and bad times he’s been through, from his brutal experiences with the legal system to wild nights to the struggles of trying to make his dreams come true, to dealing with the weight of two felonies on his record.
Tone’s unique willingness to take a look at his mistakes and faults - to bare himself in his music - is refreshing. Tone says that by releasing his true self in his music, he is able to look forward to see what his potential could be, and empower him to achieve his full potential.
